Lessons are targeted at each person's ability. For an absolute beginner the first lesson can either be a lead rein lesson or a lesson on the lunge, where the aids to halt, walk, trot and how to change direction are taught.
At the start, it is important to learn “the basic position” as this allows you to sit in balance and comfort on the horse, it also makes it much easier for the horse to carry the rider. After a few lead rein or lunge lessons you can go it alone!
Once the basic position is established and the control over the direction and rhythm of the horse in both trot and canter are good…. its time to move on….
…. trot poles and jumping position with and without stirrups.
Starting from scratch it normally takes a few years before you are able to jump but there are exceptions to this rule in the end this depends entirely on you!
THIS COULD BE YOU!
If you prefer to keep all four feet on the ground then dressage is for you. Once you have established all the basics it is then time to start going into riding with more depth, i.e., how to ask the horse to work properly….if the horse is moving with his quarters engaged (underneath him and pushing through with impulsion), and moving forward up into your hand, then and only then is your horse working properly.
From there you can learn lateral work i.e. leg yielding, traver, turn on the forehand, pirouette, half pass, and many more.
Lessons can be arranged in advance and vary from half-an-hour to an hour, group or private. Hacks vary from half-an-hour up to two hours and depend on the rider’s individual experience, and are always escorted. Prices vary accordingly.
